Hospice Buffalo Announces 2018 Board Appointments

Tracey O’Connor, MD, was elected Chairman of the CHPC Board of Trustees. Dr. O’Connor is Associate Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Jacobs School of Medicine, University at Buffalo. Dr. O’Connor received her Doctor of Medicine degree from UB, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at University of Rochester, and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Roswell Park. She has been a practicing medical oncologist in the breast division at Roswell since 2002, and a strong proponent for appropriate palliative care and hospice services for cancer patients. Dr. O’Connor has been a CHPC Board member since 2012.

Nora McGuire, SVP of Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer at Independent Health, was elected Chair of the Hospice Foundation of WNY Board and Vice Chair of the CHPC Board of Trustees. McGuire has been a Foundation Board member since 2015 and has brought a wealth of knowledge from her 35+ years of experience in health insurance management.

Buffalo resident, Tom Muraca, is our newest Foundation Board Member. Muraca oversees the North American sales and marketing efforts for KATZ Americas, a WNY manufacturer of coasters, children’s books, and eco-friendly retail signage. He received his MBA from Canisius College and graduated from Leadership Buffalo in 2011. Muraca was elected to the Board of Directors for Leadership Buffalo in 2014 and became a youth mentor for their Youth Leadership program. Muraca is also a member of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and was a Buffalo Business First 2017 “40 Under 40” honoree.

The Board of Trustees is an eighteen member organization which governs The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care (CHPC). CHPC is one of the largest and most respected hospice and palliative (comfort) care programs in the nation, serving more than 900 patients a day in Erie County homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and the Mary & Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Hospice Inpatient Unit in Cheektowaga. Palliative care-trained CHPC staff cares for individuals with serious illness, as well as their families and caregivers through a continuum of care spanning the course of illness through bereavement. CHPC affiliates include Hospice Buffalo, Home Connections (adult palliative care program), Essential Care for Children, Wilson Support Center, the Palliative Care Institute, and the Hospice Foundation of WNY. Hospice Buffalo helps people make choices about care, supports those who are grieving, and educates the professional and lay communities on end-of-life issues.
