Hospice Buffalo Receives Grant from Patrick P. Lee Foundation
to Renovate and Expand Facilities
Foundation awards Hospice $150,000
Cheektowaga, NY – To better meet the need for increased inpatient capacity and improve efficiency, the Patrick P. Lee Foundation has awarded Hospice Buffalo a $150,000 grant.
“We are very grateful to the trustees of the Patrick Lee Foundation for this most generous grant,” stated William E. Finn, president and CEO of The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care. “The Lee Foundation’s commitment to Hospice Buffalo represents an investment in the future of Hospice care in our community and will help us enhance the warm and comfortable settings for those in our care.”
"The Patrick P. Lee Foundation in proud to be a partner with Hospice Buffalo,” said Frederic L. Cook, executive director of The Patrick P. Lee Foundation. “We view their team approach to care as a critical component in the relief of suffering for both patient and family. We applaud their program which gives the patient the finest quality of life possible for as long as possible."
The grant funds will help Hospice Buffalo to invest and expand its facilities to improve the experiences for patients and visiting family members as well as improve the efficiencies in the delivery of clinical care. While most Hospice care is provided at home, the number of Hospice Buffalo patients needing inpatient care has nearly tripled since the Hospice Mitchell Campus in Cheektowaga opened in 1995. In addition, the funds will help Hospice Buffalo to address Erie County’s rapidly aging population. It is estimated that by 2015, nearly 25% of Erie County’s population will be over 60 years of age, increasing the need for palliative (comfort-oriented) and hospice services.
Located in Key Largo, FL and Amherst, NY, the Patrick P. Lee Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to providing support to non-profit organizations that empower families and communities with the resources needed to create positive change in areas of education, cancer treatment/research, mental health and human services in South Florida and Western New York.
