Hospice Buffalo... Hope, Care, Dignity
It's a special way of caring for people with serious illness and their families. Our purpose is to help people maintain dignity and control over their own lives and care. That means we care for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Caring professionals offer medical services, social services, pastoral and spiritual care, assistance with legal and other issues, and bereavement counseling. Inpatient care for acute pain and symptom management is also provided. In addition, more than 1,000 volunteers contribute vital services and support to patients and families. Hospice also provides prescription medications related to the patient's illness, and medical supplies and equipment. Respite care is provided at our inpatient unit at the Hospice Mitchell Campus in Cheektowaga.
Hospice trains family members so that they feel comfortable caring for the patient between our visits. When you are a Hospice patient, you're never more than a phone call away from help. A registered nurse is here 24 hours a day to take your call. If there's a problem that can't be handled by phone, we'll arrange for a nurse or social worker to come to your home.
Yes, of course. Hospice physicians and nurses consult with your doctor on all aspects of your care.
Hospice is a fully covered Medicare benefit. Most health insurance plans do cover Hospice services. But Hospice care is based on the patient's need, not the ability to pay.
A patient's physician does need to approve Hospice care. But anyone can call us, at any time. In fact, if you prefer, we can speak to your doctor for you.
Call Hospice at (716) 686-8000. We're here to take your call any time, 24 hours a day.
